This dissertation quotes not only from I-Ching, Chinese most divine classics, also from the metaphysics of Geomancy, the supreme wisdom and experiences of various schools and exponents, and the idea “Personal Insight” from Confucian, Taoist, and Buddhist sages. We hope people may have a deeper awareness of life’s rise and fall and probe into the mysterious truth existing in the universe. The intension and goal of this dissertation is to revive Chinese traditional culture, to promote the extensive and profound virtue of the Universe’s Creation, and to propagate the past sages’ Principles of Geomancy as well. Hopefully, people could notice the issue of Feng Shui through I-Ching, signs of diagrams, and mathematics and science.

In founding a capital, locating principal cities, landscaping, and constructing both Yin Zhai and Yang Zhai( Houses and Graves) and especially in the system of the metaphysics of Geomancy during the past thousands of years in China, theories of Feng Shui have been seriously taken. Nevertheless, there was still vagueness and doubt about Feng Shui then. This dissertation is to clarify the unclear concepts of Feng Hsui by providing a large number of data, documentation, and proof certified by modern science, and by analyzing relevant information. Combined with theories and practice of modernarchitecture, these concepts are transformed into this academic research, which may be regarded as “the Skill of Geomancy”.

This research follows the principles of the profound theories from various schools, such as I-Ching, Yao Tzu, Hsiang Tzu, His Tzu, Wen Yen, Luan Tou, Li Qi, Landscape, House and Grave, San Ho, Chiu Hsing, Hsuan Lung Ching, Lung Men Ba Chu, and Hsun Kung Liu Fa, etc. And the purpose is to offer an appropriate definition and idea about Feng Shui, and to probe into the documentation and gradually discourse upon the relevant information. Field survey and studies are also done to make the research integral. This research is oriented toward organizing documentation, assembling supreme wisdom and experiences left by the antiquity, finding new ways of doing things from old theories, analyzing documentation in depth, and generalizing a basis for the research itself. Moreover, we expect to compile a complete and logical version of “I Ching and Principles of Geomancy”, set a good example for modern science and Feng Shui, and combine principles and applications to get to the core of the Geomancy.

The theories of I Ching, modern science, mountains, Place, hill, water, House and Grave and Li Qi, classics and documentation are repeatedly cross-checked in this dissertation, with nature rules applied and classics cited, to unveil the mystery of Feng Shui proved by human science. The content, chant, pithy formula, examples, and diagrams in this dissertation are so brief and clear as to build up correct ideas and make good use of these ideas. Yet, it is only by passing down I Ching and the Five Arts from one generation to another and dedicating to truth pursuing, with no racial or religious discrimination, that it could be eternal and everlasting. Composing this dissertation being a difficult task, it is used as a personal treasured book , a guidebook for inferring good or bad luck, and a reference for the other devoted researchers hereafter.
